The study "drivers for the rollout of high speed broadband infrastructure" shows that broadband demand has, at least in parts, achieved a level which can no longer be satisfied with upgraded copper networks. Based on the WIK market potential model it is predicted that about 75% of households will demand bandwidths of at least 500 Mbit/s down- and 300 Mbit/s upstream in 2025, which cannot be operated via upgraded copper networks. Based on our analysis and empirical observations recommendations are derived, how policy and regulation can promote the spread of FTTB and FTTH infrastructures in Germany.
