How do municipalities in Germany use innovative, digital solutions to improve mobility? On Wednesday, 24 May 2023, Julia Wielgosch, Senior Economist at the Stadt.Land.Digital office, led a conference session with urban mobility experts that included presentations and a panel discussion:
Christian Schröder, Energieversorgung Mittelrhein AG, shared insights on the project "Klimastraße Koblenz", a project that field-tested innovative solutions for climate-friendly streets. Dr. Stefan Krampe, Trafficon - Traffic Consultants GmbH, explained how SATURN, a project funded by the mFUND research initiative, helps to manage traffic in urban areas and peripheral regions. Michaela Grahl, Initiative für sichere Straßen GmbH, presented www.gefahrenstellen.de, a platform that cumulates and visualizes road hazards. In her statement, she illustrated how local actors are working together towards a safe and sustainable transport system.
The presentations and the panel discussion showed how municipalities are using a wide range of digital solutions to make transport more efficient, sustainable and safe. A major challenge is not only imposed by the implementation of technical innovations, but also by gaining acceptance and interest of potential users.
A video recording of the panel discussion is available (only in German).
