Against the backdrop of the energy transition, intelligent distribution grids will have to integrate millions of generation plants, storage facilities and electric vehicles into the energy supply system. The report examines which telecommunications network infrastructure the energy transition requires, how robust the existing telecommunications network in Germany is, and to what extent tailor-made telecommunications regulation can support the most efficient construction and operation of intelligent energy networks.
For this purpose, various TC technologies were examined and evaluated on the basis of relevant criteria. The submitted report concludes that a dedicated mobile network for critical infrastructures in the 450 MHz band could meet the specific requirements comprehensively and at the lowest cost. The upcoming reallocation of the rights of use of 450 MHz radio frequencies thus offers a great opportunity for the energy transition.
