This study by WIK-Consult analyses the impact of modern information and communication technologies on (ICT) on demand and supply of postal services. It further discusses implications for postal universal service.
The study was commission by Bundestag (German Federal Parliament), and managed through a research office that support Bundestag (TAB, Büro für Technikfolgen-Abschätzung beim Deutschen Bundestag).
The research was carried out between November 2011 and Mai 2012. The study is based on extensive desk research, many interviews with postal experts and customers. The study includes a detailed forecast mail volumes in Germany for 2013-2020, based on a parametric forecasting model.
